State Champs Gold & Sydney Track Classic

Hi all!

I wanted to give a quick wrap up from last weekend and a preview of this weekend for everyone!

So over Friday, Saturday and Sunday we had the State Championships at Homebush where I decided to run the 200m and the 400m. I'd never won an Open State title, so I was hoping this would be the year I could get it!In the 400m we had horrible conditions with wind and rain during the Heats and Finals. Not very conducive to fast times on the track unfortunately. I qualified fastest through to the final, and ended up winning it in a time of 53.45! Not super fast but I was happy with it nonetheless because of the conditions, plus it gave me the gold which meant I was to receive my first Open State Title! Here is a photo of me after the medal presentation with State record holder and Olympian Marree Holland.

The next day we had the 200m heats and finals within an hour or two of each other. So I progressed through the heats nice and relaxed to save my energy for the final. The weather was slightly better for the last race as the rain had stopped, the sun was trying to come out and was only a small breeze. I felt really good in the race and was very happy to win it in a personal best time of 23.73seconds. This was my second win for the weekend and I was really happy to have done it in such a good time. Athletics NSW wrote a great little article leading up to the championships about me doing the 200/400 double. The link to it is here:

Now to this weekend!

The Sydney Track Classic is being held this Saturday night at Sydney Olympic Park. It's a real quality night where internationals and Australia's best athletes are going to be competing, and some to try and post the elusive World Championship qualifying times. The event starts from about 6.30pm and goes till 9pm. Australia's Olympic and World Champions Steve Hooker, Sally Pearson, and Dani Samuels will be there.

I've been invited to run the 200m at the event, which would have been alongside Sally Pearson but unfortunately she has suffered a slight injury this week and had to pull out. It will still be a really great field though with London Olympian sprinter Melissa Breen running. I'm really looking forward to racing the 200m, especially since I ran my PB last weekend! If anyone wants to come along and support me and the other athletes, the website is here:

Below is a great photo David Tarbotton took of me running a 200m the other week at an All Comers in Sydney.

I must get back to my uni work as it has started again for the year! But I hope to see you out at Sydney Track Classic this Saturday night.

Thanks! A. xx
